Aluminum Alloy Corrosion of Engine Coolant Tester ASTM D4340

This instrument is a laboratory screening procedure for evaluating the effectiveness of engine coolants in combating corrosion of aluminum casting alloys under heat-transfer conditions that may be present in aluminum cylinder head engines. 

 A heat flux is established through a cast aluminum alloy typical of that used for engine cylinder heads while exposed to an engine coolant under a pressure of 193 kPa (28 psi).  The temperature of the aluminum specimen is maintained at 135C (275°F) and the test is continued for 1 week (168 h). The effectiveness of the coolant for preventing corrosion of the aluminum under heat-transfer conditions (hereafter referred to as heat-transfer corrosion) is evaluated ond the basis of the weight change of the test specimen.

Product Description

1. The instrument consists of a support and one or two thermally conductive corrosion cells with a working pressure of 40 psi and an operating temperature of 160 °C; an electronic timer controls the test time and an electronic thermostat controls the temperature.

4. Thermal conductivity corrosion cell for heat-resistant glass manufacturing, cover and bottom are stainless steel materials;

5. Stainless steel thermal conductivity bar by solid state relay control 950 W heater;

6. Components mounted on top of the etching cell: bleeder valve, pressure reducing valve and pressure gauge are made of stainless steel; 

7. Sample inlet in the upper cover, the mouth with sealing bubbles, four stainless steel column connected to the cover and the base; 

8. The temperature controller of the instrument is a set of temperature control and display as a whole and with a microprocessor can be PID-adjusted intelligent regulator, the sensor for the K-type thermocouple, for the two-position instrument, all parts are two sets;

9. The instrument has over-temperature safety protection function;

10. Electronic timer, can be preset test time, arrive at the time, the instrument will automatically stop heating, the two corrosion cell can be tested separately, without mutual interference.
